Hello, dear DEV community!
Some of you here might remember me as a DEV.to/Forem team member. It would be an understatement to say that my time at dev.to taught me a LOT about how passionate and dedicated to learning the broader open source community is 💞
Since my amazing time on team DEV, I have been working for the Rust Foundation: the independent, nonprofit steward of the Rust programming language and its global community as their Director of Communications & Marketing. As many of you here will know, Rust has been the most-admired programming language for 8 years running, according to StackOverflow, and for good reason—there are so many exciting things being built with Rust, tons of fascinating use cases, and areas to explore in this growing corner of open source. In short, if you're actively building things with Rust or you are curious about it, you know it's a powerful language with an impact that is deepening every day.
In addition to providing grants for Rust maintainers, providing infrastructure support for the Rust Project, and facilitating many impactful technology initiatives benefitting Rust and its users, the Rust Foundation hosts an event called RustConf—the original annual conference for the Rust community. I wanted to pop in here and tell you all a bit more about this year's RustConf taking place in Seattle, Washington (and online!) from September 2-5, 2025.

About Our Program
There's so much to look forward to at RustConf 2025! Here's what I think will be most compelling about RustConf to the DEV community...
Future-Focused Content
"Async Day" Workshops @ RustConf
For the first time this year, we’re hosting Async Day on Tuesday, September 2 — a full day of hands-on, in-person workshops dedicated to real-world async in Rust. Whether you’re learning .await or integrating Rust with C++, there’s a workshop designed to meet you where you are.
This year's Async Day workshops:
"Async Design Patterns in Rust” — Hosted by: Conrad Ludgate
"Async Rust & C++ Interop in Production” — Hosted by: Aida Getoeva
"Async Fundamentals" — Hosted by: Herbert Wolverson of Ardan Labs
One of these Async Day experiences can be added to your in-person registration at checkout. Learn more about our workshops here.
Keynotes
RustConf 2025 will feature four inspiring keynotes by the following leaders:
Mark Russinovich (CTO, Microsoft Azure) —
"From Blue Screens to Orange Crabs: Microsoft’s Rusty Revolution"Ellie Huxtable (Atuin) — "Rust All the Way Down"
Jonathan Kelley (Dioxus) — "High-Level Rust and the Future of Application Development"
Nicholas Matsakis & Jack Huey (The Rust Project) —"Vision Doc: The Next 10 Years of Rust"
Talks
In addition to the keynotes listed above, we'll also have many talks from people using Rust to address human trafficking, power healthcare technology, develop a secure and anonymous whistleblowing system at a major news publication, and so much more!
Community Room
For the second time, we're offering a room specifically dedicated to Rust-focused lightning talks and discussions. This means that anyone can sign up to share what they're working on and their perspectives about Rust.
Networking
We'll also have a dynamic expo hall experience filled with exhibiting sponsors who are eager to talk to developers about shared Rust opportunities, including jobs, project to contribute to, and much more. We've announced a few sponsors already and are about to share more!
Join the "Rustacean" community at RustConf 2025 🦀
Thanks for taking the time to read this dispatch from a former DEV staff member! It's been amazing checking back in on this platform and reading about what many of you have been working on. Shout-out to all the wonderful folks contributing to and moderating the DEV rust tag.
I know I'm a tad biased, but I truly believe that this year's RustConf is the perfect one for Rust newbies or RustConf first-timers to join, because, in addition to celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the first stable release of Rust this year, we'll be exploring what's NEXT in Rust and the truly innovative places it's showing up. In other words, even if you're not a longtime Rust contributor, you'll walk away with a sense of the opportunities that exist in this ecosystem.
If I've successfully convinced you to join us at RustConf 2025, register while spots remain! If you have some Rust experience and are interested in a hands-on "Async Day" workshop in Seattle, you'll definitely want to register for one soon while we have capacity.
Finally, if you do decide to join us in Seattle, please get in touch with me! I'd love to know who from the DEV community is onsite so I can chat with you 🧡
P.S. Partner with RustConf!
If you work for an organization that is invested in the success of Rust/open source and would benefit from gaining brand visibility at an event filled with active and passionate programmers, partnering with us as a sponsor of RustConf is a great opportunity! Learn more about our sponsorship opportunities and start a conversation with my fantastic team here.
I'd love to answer any questions folks might have about RustConf 2025! Hope to see you there this September! 🧡
