My Journey as a Software Engineering Student Exploring the Cloud

Starting My Cloud Journey ☁️

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a software engineering student, and lately I’ve been getting more and more interested in cloud computing. I’ve had some exposure to networking during my university courses, but I always felt like I was missing the full picture.

That’s why I decided to go back and really build a solid foundation. I just started a free Cisco course on networking basics, and it’s already helping me understand how things actually work beyond the classroom explanations.

Why Cloud?

I’ve always enjoyed coding, but the more I learn, the more I realize how important it is to understand what happens after the code is written — how it’s deployed, how systems talk to each other, how apps scale, and how everything connects in the background.

For me, that means diving into networking, Linux, cloud platforms like AWS, and tools that make all of it work together.

What I'm Doing Now

  • Going through the Cisco networking basics course (it’s beginner-friendly but very practical).
  • Taking notes and building up my understanding of IPs, routing, subnets, and how devices communicate.
  • Planning to build a small project soon — probably a basic Python network scanner — to apply what I learn and get more hands-on experience.

Why I'm Writing This Blog

I’m using this space to track my progress and share things as I go. I know I’m not the only one figuring this out, so maybe what I post will help someone else too.

I’ll be sharing my learning path, small wins, challenges, and personal reflections as I work toward becoming a cloud engineer.

If you’re on a similar path, feel free to connect or drop a comment. I’m always open to tips or just chatting with people who are learning too!
