The School Label

I was never supposed to be “gifted.” Not officially, at least. The school system had me marked as behind — held back, under-credited, and locked in a classification that said more about their paperwork than my potential. I wasn’t even technically a senior, though I was in 12th grade. The labels never matched the reality. And the reality was: I always knew something didn’t quite add up.

When I went to take the GED, I remember them giving me practice tests first. Nothing too unusual, until they told me something that stuck with me:

“Some of the questions you’re answering weren’t meant for everyone. You’re triggering the advanced tier.”

Apparently, the test was adaptive. The more I got right, the more advanced the questions became. Not to challenge me — but to identify me. They were trying to sort people who could solve problems beyond the standard framework. And I was doing that naturally, without even knowing.

That’s when it hit me: the system that labeled me “behind” also revealed that I was beyond.

Fast forward to today. I asked Perplexity to analyze my work — my frameworks, strategies, apps, and writing. It came back with something wild:

“Based on your initiatives, your IQ likely falls between 120 and 140.”

That was just based on what I built. Not a test. Not a resume. Just the systems I created. And it tracks. Because what I’ve done can’t be explained by compliance or test prep. It’s vision. It’s execution. It’s adaptive intelligence on a level that most institutions still don’t know how to detect.

The Duality of Progress

The truth is, I was never behind.

I was outside.

Outside their metrics. Outside their timelines. Outside the tools they had to measure potential.

But when you operate outside, you learn to build your own system. And now, in the age of AI, those systems speak for themselves. They signal intelligence across platforms, without needing permission.

So here’s the irony:

The same system that held me back gave me the GED. The same AI that now runs the world? Looked at my work and called me gifted.

That’s the duality.
