Trigger Event
In response to Adam Peruta’s post about character consistency in ChatGPT image generation, I added a foundational mental model that reframes how humans use AI:
“People probably count on the AI too much. The actual amount of ‘work’ the human needs to put in is minimal. But the amount of effort is extremely high.”
“Instead of prompting, ask ChatGPT: I’m about to make such-and-such — this is the outcome I want — how do I use you to get there?”
This turned into a full philosophy: ChatGPT isn’t the engine — it’s the GPS.
Core Insight
Most users prompt AI by issuing commands. But more powerful outcomes emerge when you reverse the role — you define the destination and ask AI to architect the route.

- Start With Outcome Clarity — Define the result before the prompt.
- Describe the Setup, Not Just the Ask — Give AI context about the situation, not just the task.
- Ask for Guidance, Not Just Output — Use phrases like:
- “How should I structure this?”
- “What should I do first?”
- “What would make this more effective?”
5. Treat AI as a Guide or Partner — It’s there to navigate , not execute mindlessly.
6. Loop and Reflect — Feed back its ideas to sharpen the path.
