Why I Chose Biotechnology and Why I’m Learning Bioinformatics with R

Hi! I'm Oğuzhan, a 3rd-year biotechnology student based in Turkey. I've always been fascinated by how the brain works, how genes influence our behavior, and how we can use data and artificial intelligence to understand—and maybe even enhance—human cognition.

Recently, I started learning bioinformatics, especially using R and Galaxy to analyze gene expression and biological datasets. It’s a challenging but exciting journey. I plan to learn Biopython next, but for now, I’m focusing on building a solid foundation in R.

In this blog, I’ll share:

  • What I learn in bioinformatics and biotechnology
  • Tutorials and beginner-friendly projects in R
  • Reflections from my classes and personal studies
  • Ideas about neuroscience, AI, and the future of biotech

If you're a student, a beginner in bioinformatics, or just curious about where biology meets technology, I’d love to connect.

Have you also started learning bioinformatics? What helped you the most? I'd love to hear your experience in the comments!

Let’s learn and grow together 🚀

Stay tuned for my first technical post: A beginner’s guide to gene expression analysis in R.
