We've all heard about the recent trend of migrations from public cloud to on-premise, especially by the folks at 37 Signals. You may have also seen people moving from serverless platforms on AWS or Vercel and going to Hertzner, with a lot of cost savings in terms of infrastructure cost.

In this episode of DevOps & Platform Engineering we will be talking about a migration from AWS to fly.io by the folks at Trellis.org. I'm joined by their CTO/co-founder, Jay Bell, to talk about their migration journey. We will touch on:

  • the cost savings
  • planning and executing such migration
  • any horror story along the way
  • their challenge with BullMQ and Redis during the transition, and how they solved it.
