When I came across the petition “India: The Suicide Capital of the World – Mandate Mental Health Education in Schools”, it felt like a wake-up call. Every year, thousands of young lives are lost to suicide in India. Behind each number is a child, a family, a story that could have been different if we spoke about mental health earlier.
Schools are not just about academics. They shape who we are. If children learn how to talk about emotions, build resilience, and support one another, they can carry these skills for life. Mental health education is like giving them a toolkit—not just to survive but to grow.
It gives me hope that movements like this are supported by groups such as WeDidIt Foundation and MiddleMen.Asia, who believe in change. The petition’s demand to introduce mental health education from the first grade is not just about reducing numbers, it’s about saving lives and building empathy.
I believe if we make mental wellness part of classrooms, we can raise a generation that listens, understands, and supports instead of judging.
