Name a website or app that annoys you. What’s wrong with it?

Juan D.Jul 18, 2022The websites I hate the most are the ones with unclear big menus where you cannot find anything. And the landing is just some bad unstyled copy. Almost every website representing a public institution in my country Spain is like this

- Clickbait style headings to get you in
- Cookie banners that don't meet the GDPR requirements
- Ad-block detectors that try to get you to pay for a subscription
- Adverts that get around the ad-blockers anyway and appear over and in the middle of content
- Alert to add an icon to home screen/desktop for their site
- Alert to allow notifications for their site
- Multiple redirects once inside the site to prevent you using the back button
- And finally, the "news" ends up being just the same opinion written 4 different ways spanning several paragraphs with little to no facts or details to support it
ADS-BNEJul 21, 2022Might not be what you're after, but Duolingo.
Used to love it until they brought in the "Lives" feature. Basically you had 5 lives and if you failed something during a lesson you'd lose a life. Lose all your lives and you're fundamentally locked out. You can pay for more lives, of course.
I used to do my lessons on the bus to work. Sometimes the bus would hit a bump and I'd tap the wrong answer or there would be noise and I wouldn't be able to hear the sentence properly and get it wrong.
The lives thing absolutely killed Duolingo for me.
For me, it's any website that loads one very vague sentence and a graphic, and forces you to scroll a full page down to get another little morsel of vagueness. It's enough to turn me off a product regardless what it is.
Not to point fingers, but also to totally point a finger, I can't stand the Temporal.io website. It's a shame, because I actually think it's a great product, and worth learning about. But - if you're new to it, go to that website and tell me how long it takes you to find out what the heck it even is. Even the little blurb at the very top is annoying - what is that dangling parenthetical doing there, and what do they even mean by a "workflow"?
