CHAPTER-1 : ARISE, AWAKE AND KICKASS
The most right, ethical and well thought decisions are taken in the morning i.e. your decision making capability is strong early in the day when you’ve had a continuous sleep of 8 hours and because your brain is all charged up and in a state of delivering peak performance. Studies have also found that people are more compassionate at the start of the day and it keeps shrinking as the day progresses.
Sleeping well and tight is a habit that makes masters. Lack of proper sleep can lead to one feeling exhausted all day and not being able to perform required activities with as much potential as they would have done otherwise. It is only during sleep that the toxins inside our body get flushed out automatically by our body so it's important that you sleep at least 7 hours a day. The book contains a handful of techniques that you can use to fall asleep faster and wake up early. The chapter talks about how discipline helps you to achieve success, be it the discipline of sleeping early, exercising or waking up at 5 each morning.
One of the most interesting point and that grabs the most attention of mine is that love motivates you i.e. providing a good life to our loved ones can work as a motivation for us to do better in our lives and that people who love someone or the other in their lives act more responsible and work harder. The book tells you to stop having goals that are unattainable but measurable goals which give you a direction in which you have to work and at what pace. Spend hours training your mind and visualize yourself attaining your goals which will help you to make necessary changes in your life to move close to your goals.
Besides all of this, your health is still the most important thing that matters the most and for that you should keep exercising and indulge in whatever physical activity you like after you wake up at 5 in the morning which will help you health wise and also will help you stay awake and keep your energy levels great for you to work towards your goals.
CHAPTER-2 : BE A HERO
Life is not something you live centered around you but doing something for others: A necessity to become a leader because how can you become a leader when you don't know the ground reality of people and places. The Awakening of humanity in humans can do more good than all of the professional people of the society. Author encourages to volunteer. Author is appealing to people to volunteer to help others in crisis. It will not only help those on the receiving end but the givers too. There is a study that shows that people who volunteer live a hopeful life free from depression and chances of them getting a better job increase. When you volunteer you end up meeting new people talking about their life struggles which motivates you to alleviate their pain.
While working, help and encourage senior citizens around you to use their wisdom that they have collected all their life to volunteer in any area of life so that they can contribute in bettering life upon earth. The writer requests readers for organ donation, blood donation as it can save lakhs of lives and this way they can continue to live even after they are dead. A demand to curb pollution and working towards reversing the deterioration of the planet is what resonates in the end of the chapter. Horrific pictures of garbage patches in the pacific ocean and living organisms feeding on the plastic are drawn. An appeal to stop animal cruelty in the name of fashionable clothes and luxurious handbags is made. The readers are requested to become vegetarian so that no cruelty is faced by the animals that support our ecosystem and the survival of human beings on earth.
An emphasis is given to “Be a Hero”, be sustainable and improve the quality of all the lives that we share this planet Earth with.
Chapter-3 : BECOME A DROMOMANIAC
In this chapter, writer wants us to go travel solo with very little money so that we learn the art of survival with the help of minimal resources and get to know the harsh truths that are often deliberately hidden by the politicians or powerful people so that people only know about their good deeds and they can increase their vote banks. Experiences in life are things that drive us to evolve and make us realize that we are more than all of the things that can be possessed. Solo journeys are full of self-realisations and help you dive deep into your conscience which makes you contemplate on your life decisions and its impact on the greater society.
Travelling solo can help manage your stress and makes you more generous and connected to your community. It also stimulates thoughts which are the real drivers of the economy. While travelling, you must carry a book with you other than your academics because you'll not have anyone beside you. It is the book that'll entertain you along with providing you insights that can be helpful to you in your lives.
CHAPTER-4 : LIVING A 100 LIVES
Reading is where the emphasis is on in the chapter. It’s said that if you are an avid reader you can live a hundred lives along with living your own. Reading can make you look at things differently and gives you a new angle through which you can look at the world. Reading helps you improve your decision making. Reading teaches you ‘Delayed Gratification’ which increases your patience and you become more hopeful when under a process or a journey. It makes you a good listener and attunes you with people around you which in turn supports your behavioral growth and you start seeing things in the bigger picture evolving professionally and personally.
Reading non-academic books makes you aware about worldly knowledge which is very important in today’s times when fake news is what gets the most views and reads. Author wants you to understand the kind of books that you should read because not every book contains the type of information that we all need because a book is a private opinion of some person and that can be wrong. It is you who has to use your brains to pick a read which is not manipulating and will prove beneficial for you.
CHAPTER-5 : STAY CURIOUS: THE WHY HABIT
The author expects you to ask questions as preached by Socrates; question the facts, the authorities and everything that seems to be against the laws of the Universe. Don’t believe anything or everything that you read or see, go to the source of the information and find out whether it’s true or not. Asking questions forces you to find logic in every situation and not follow anything blindly. Many people follow religious practices that have gone obsolete and are no longer relevant so blindly that they will prefer dying over changing their beliefs and perceptions of things. And politicians use this as a strategy to fulfill their agendas because people are gullible with low IQs who do not question and will submit to the powerful now or later. Terrorists are made like this only.
There is no one but you who can change your destinies just as Jiddu Krishnamurthy says. So observe, analyse, ask questions and seek the truth that people try to keep concealed for their personal advantage. Do not fear speaking the truth, even when everyone believes it is best to be quiet and live in peace. You're preparing the world for the coming generations and take the opportunity that they thank you for living your life the way you lived!
