Google Layoffs Continue: Hundreds Lose Jobs in Platforms & Devices Division
Google is back in the headlines with another wave of layoffs — this time hitting its Platforms & Devices division, the team behind Chrome, Pixel phones, and Android software.
According to The Information, hundreds of employees were let go on Thursday, following voluntary buyout offers made earlier this year.
This comes shortly after Google trimmed roles in its Cloud division and laid off 6% of its global workforce in 2023.
Google says these cuts are part of efforts to “become more nimble and operate more effectively” after merging teams last year. Despite these layoffs, Google still has a massive workforce of around 180,000 employees.
