Tesla has quietly removed the “order” button for its Model S and Model X cars from its Chinese website amid rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China. The move comes after China slapped a hefty 84% tariff on American-made vehicles, following the U.S.’s 145% tariff on Chinese imports. While these luxury models are still available from existing inventory, new orders are now closed. Interestingly, Tesla’s best-sellers in China — the Model 3 and Model Y — remain unaffected as they’re made locally in Shanghai.
