Congrats to the Winners of Our First Web Game Challenge!

Publish Date: Oct 1 '24

The moment has finally arrived! We are thrilled to unveil the winners of our inaugural community web game challenge.

Our alien-themed Build a Web Game prompt sparked a wave of nostalgia across many of the submissions, transporting us back to the golden age of arcade games while showcasing modern web technologies. Our One Byte Explainer submissions demonstrated the art of concise communication, with concepts articulated into bite-sized, easily digestible explanations.

As the creator and founder behind Enclave Games, the js13kGames competition, and the Gamedev.js community, our guest judge Andrzej Mazur (@end3r) took on the challenging task of selecting our final winners. We are grateful for the wealth of expertise Andrzej brings to the table for our first web game challenge.

Read on to see who our two winners are!

Congratulations To…

Build a Web Game Winner

@jyoung4242 for building a strongly executed and well documented game, Alien Waves. Justin takes advantage of the engine used to create the game, but also added new features where needed. Not only is this game fun to play, but the submission itself serves as a great tutorial for developers learning how to build web games!

One Byte Explainer Winner

@hikolakita is our winning wordsmith with their explanation of Event Listeners. We were impressed by this byte because even non-technical folks can understand it - good tutorials usually use comparisons and analogies like this to explain complex concepts to readers.

Congrats again to both our winners!

Each will each receive the following prizes:

All Participants with a valid submission will receive a completion badge on their DEV profile.

What’s next?

Andrzej would like to welcome everyone to visit the js13kGames 2024 entries page and play some really cool games (each fit into a 13 kilobyte zip package!) from their competition this year. Winners for the js13kGames will be announced in just a few days, on October 5th.

We’ll be announcing two new challenges tomorrow (10/02):

  • Pinata Challenge
  • Hacktoberfest Writing Challenge

Be sure to follow #devchallenge so you don’t miss the announcement!

This is the official tag for submissions and announcements related to DEV Challenges.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our first web game challenge. We hope you had fun, felt challenged, and maybe added a thing or two to your professional profile.

See you next time!

After I commented earlier, I noticed I’m getting multiple emails with the same notification. Is there a fix for that? Thanks!laventino.com/

Congratulations once again and thank you all who submitted - really enjoyed playing the games, reading through explainers, and picking the ultimate winners!

Check out my blog post if you're curious who would've ended in top3 if there was such ranking for the games in the challenge.

The creativity in these web game challenges is inspiring! For gaming enthusiasts, I recently came across 1win-app.org/, a platform that brings a unique vibe to sports and casino games with impressive attention to detail. What I love is its accessibility and ease-of-use, making it approachable for both new and experienced users. Have others here explored it? The design simplicity mirrors the engaging experiences we see in these web game challenges. Always open to finding similar sites if anyone’s got recommendations for well-designed gaming interfaces!

Hi all! I found plinko.rs when I was looking for easy games I could play on my phone while commuting in Serbia. I didn’t think much of it at first, but the randomness of the ball movement really hooked me. I had a streak where nothing went right and I was convinced it just wasn’t for me. Then suddenly I hit one good multiplier and everything changed. I even laughed out loud on the bus. It’s now part of my daily downtime routine when I need something quick.
