From Hello World to Team Lead: My Complete Developer Growth Journey

Publish Date: May 20

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m incredibly proud (and a bit nervous) to finally share something that’s been close to my heart for years.

🚀 Today, I’m launching my eBook: “From Hello World to Team Lead”.

Why I Wrote This Book

Early in my career, I remember hitting that point where I asked myself:

“What’s next? How do I grow beyond just writing code?”

Sure, tutorials and docs are great. But no one really prepares you for the human side of growth as a developer. How do you handle difficult conversations? Lead a team? Make impact beyond your own tasks?

This book is the guide I wish I had back then.

What You’ll Learn

From Hello World to Team Lead is a practical roadmap for devs who want to grow into more senior and leadership roles.

You’ll learn how to:

  • ✅ Go beyond "just coding"
  • ✅ Communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • ✅ Build trust and influence in your team
  • ✅ Develop leadership & mentoring skills
  • ✅ Make a real impact in your company

As a bonus, I’ve included exclusive interviews with amazing engineers like Nadia Makarevich and Kent C. Dodds, who share their personal journeys and insights.

Who It’s For

This book is for:

  • Junior developers with ambition
  • Medior devs aiming for senior
  • Seniors looking to land that lead role
  • Anyone who wants to grow without losing their authenticity

Whether you're thinking about team lead roles or just want to level up your influence: this is for you.

Giving Back

Part of the revenue from this eBook goes to amazing initiatives like:

Some Nice Words

"I got many valuable insights and useful tips from Tim. It makes you think about what’s stopping you from moving forward. Plus, you get new ideas and tips you hadn’t thought of before. It really motivates you and changes how you see things." -- Yuliia O.

"Tim is a highly approachable and supportive mentor who makes learning feel both achievable and enjoyable. He has a unique ability to explain complex concepts with clarity, and he creates an environment where asking questions and growing is encouraged." -- Dorelys R.

"Tim gave me a space to sort out my thinking and plan for the future." -- Adi N.

Thanks @jess! I truly think this is a book I wish I had when I was a junior and/or medior developer and I want to help as many people as possible with their career steps while simultaneously contributing to great tech initiatives!

Congrats on launching the eBook! I really appreciate how you’ve put the spotlight on the human and team side of developer growth - those skills are honestly what made the difference for me. What’s the most surprising lesson you discovered while writing it?

Thanks @dotallio! I really hope this will bring value to people's development careers and life in general. Good question and I think for me it was a realization of how far I've come. I tend to focus on the negative things in my career and overlook the positive. It surprised me to see everything I've done so far, the processes I came up with, all the things I learned from other developers. It's been quite the journey and it feels like I just got started!

growth like this is always cool to see - kinda makes me wonder if it’s habits or just showing up that keeps you moving up over the years?

@nathan_tarbert thanks! For me it's a combination actually. Habits like 'code commandments', setting up a to do list before starting a story, having weekly reviews really helped me, but at the same time I've always tried to be at the forefront at every job and contribute as much as possible.

      How about you?
