EKS Addons

Today, EKS announced new catalog of community Add-ons. Here is one main thing you need to be aware of...

These community add-ons can be managed like EKS add-ons. You can install them during EKS cluster creation using CLI or AWS console. Currently these are available: metrics-server, kube-state-metrics, cert-manager, prometheus-node-exporter, and external-dns.

EKS only packages them, checks for version compatibility and manages the lifecycle of the addons, like creation and deletion.

The main thing to note is that EKS does not support these community add-ons. You have to raise a github issue in the community add-ons github repo.

You can read about the announcement here: https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2025/03/amazon-eks-new-catalog-community-add-ons/
