Let's explore some of the best icon libraries of 2025 for designers and developers, which not only offer extensive collections but also make integration and customization easier for both developers and designers. Many of these icon libraries are either free or open-source, making them accessible for developers and designers at any level.

Key Selection Criteria

When choosing the best icon libraries for 2025, we focused on five essential factors:

Icon Variation

  • Popularity & Usage: We selected libraries that are widely adopted and trusted by the developer and design communities.
  • Customizability: Libraries that offer easy customization, such as adjustable stroke weight, color changes.
  • Design Variations: We prioritized libraries that provide diverse styles (e.g., outlined, solid, duo-tone) to suit different project aesthetics and needs.
  • Ease of Integration: Compatibility with popular frameworks like React, Vue, Svelte, and more.
  • Format Availability: Icon libraries that support multiple formats such as SVG, JSX, PNG, and WebP were favored.
  • Number of Free Icons: Availability of free icons within each library, as this accessibility allows developers and designers.

I use tabler in almost all my projects mixed with some few bootstrap icons (SVG format). Most of my projects are management systems.

Of recent I have created this rich editor (WYSIWYG) and for this one I used bootstrap icons for some reasons.

I’ve had issues with icon libraries like Tabler, Google Icons, Boxicons, Font Awesome and many more, where many icons have excessive padding at the bottom. It’s quite frustrating. I’ve seen suggestions on Stack Overflow to use SVG icons instead of web fonts, but for smaller or medium-sized projects, that doesn't seem practical.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a good solution?

    • Vinish Bhaskar
      Vinish BhaskarOct 9, 2024

I totally understand your frustration with excessive padding in icon libraries. It's a common issue that can affect the overall design.

One potential solution is to explore libraries that prioritize pixel-perfect precision, offering customization options for spacing and size.

      Pixel-perfect Icon Library

For instance, libraries like Lineicons provide a vast selection of icons with flexible styles, which might help you avoid padding issues in your projects.

While it's not completely free, they do offer a good amount of free icons to get you started. It might be worth checking out!

I love heroicons, but they do not have much, I plan to learn how to create icon, and contribute if that is possible, should be the default for tailwind, but the lack of icons make it hard to stick, I am currently using them in my project admin panel.
