Why India must act now to protect its next generation
📍Inspired by the petition on Change.org
Every hour, one student in India dies by suicide.
Take a moment to process that. This is a national emergency, not just a statistic.
India's young minds are quietly suffering in a world that is growing more competitive, isolated, and emotionally strained. Tragically, the nation has been dubbed "The Suicide Capital of the World." Furthermore, the crisis will only worsen if we don't start discussing mental health in schools.
Since Sree Krishna Seelam has consistently advocated for mental wellness, youth empowerment, and systemic reform, thousands of people have signed the petition to require mental health education in Indian schools.
What the Petition Demands:
The petition calls on the Ministry of Education and the Government of India to take the following urgent steps:
- Integrate mental health education into the national curriculum across all grade levels.
- Train teachers and staff to identify, respond to, and refer students experiencing emotional distress.
- Establish support systems within schools, such as access to certified counselors and regular wellness sessions.
By mandating mental health education, we aren't just changing textbooks—we're saving futures.
