Step by Step Approach for creation of AWS Managed Grafana Service

1.Login to aws management console
2.Search for Grafana and open the service
3.Landing page of AWS Managed Grafana service looks like


4.Creation of workspace: By clicking on create workspace button

Step1: Specify workspace details

Enter the fields

  • Workspace name
  • Workspace description - optional
  • Grafana version : 10.4 (selected the default version available)

  • Under Tags section for reference added Tag

    • Project : Srini Test Project

  • Click on Next

Step2: Configure settings

  • Under this section we couple of fields to be selected

Step2.1: Authentication access

  • We have two options to select

  • For this demo, i am going with SSO

Step2.2: Permission type

  • We have two options, one to select and i am going service managed for this demo

Step2.3:Outbound VPC connection - optional

Step2.4:Workspace configuration options - optional

  • There two options are available and both are optional
  • Enabled option Turn Grafana alerting on for my demo

Step2.5:Network access control - optional

  • There are two options are available
    • Open access : The workspace URL will be publicly reachable.
    • Restricted access : Only configured resources will be allowed to access the workspace.
      • When this option is selected we have options to restrict to
        • Managed prefix lists
        • Vpc endpoint

  • For this demo i am going with open access, so we can grafana workspace url easily and then click on Next button

Step 3: Service managed permission settings

  • IAM permission access settings : Select how you would like to specify account access.
    • Current account :Use Grafana to monitor resources in your current account (selected this option for demo)
    • Organization : Use Grafana to monitor resources in your Organizational Units (OUs).

  • Data sources : selected all options available
  • Notification channel name : Selected Amazon SNS

Step 4:Review and create

  • Click on Create Workspace

  • Creation in progress and it will take couple of minutes

5.AWS Managed Grafana Service created successfully

  • we can see grafana url :_ g-532b43c297.grafana-workspace.us-east-1.amazonaws.com_ to access , but it needs a login to connect to AWS Managed Grafana service

  • Go to the section AWS IAM Identity Center (successor to AWS SSO) and click on Assign New user or group button

  • Clickon Add user or group button,select the user and click on button Assign users and groups

  • User Added successfully

Steps to create a user in IAM Identity Center

  • Go to AWS Search button in the home page and search with IAM Identity Center and click on Add User

  • Keep the remaining options as it is and click on Next button

  • Select PowerUsers Group and click on Next

  • click on Add user

  • Added User will get an email to set the password and click on the link in the email.

  1. Access AWS Managed Grafana service using the url from the workspace and click on the link

  • Enter the password and click on signin

7.Able to access AWS Managed Grafana Dashboard successfully

8.Steps to Delete Grafana Workspace- Select the workspace and click on delete

  • Confirm the workspace for deletion and then click on delete

  • Deletion is in progress

  • All user licenses are per workspace, per month. Each workspace requires a minimum of one Amazon Managed Grafana Editor license in order to manage and log into the workspace, even if no users log in
  • An Amazon Managed Grafana Editor license costs $9 per active editor or administrator user per workspace
  • For customers who need only view access, an Amazon Managed Grafana Viewer license costs $5 per active user per workspace and provides the user with view-only access to the Amazon Managed Grafana workspace.
